Sub Branch History
The Samford Sub-Branch was initially formed shortly after WW2 and those initial members worked tirelessly to obtain the land in Samford and then to build a small ‘hall’ on the land. This original hall was constructed from second hand materials and is used to this day by the local Playgroup members.
The Sub-Branch collapsed in the early 1950’s when the railway line through Samford closed and many of the members left the area for work reasons. The land was transferred to Gaythorne Sub-Branch for safekeeping, but came back to Samford ownership when the Sub-Branch was ‘resurrected’ in the late 1980’s.
A house was moved to the site, renovated by the members, and then opened as our home in 2004. We do not have any pokies or restaurant facilities.
We now have three trained pension officers at the Sub-Branch and a small welfare team operating. Veterans requiring assistance with claims to DVA are encouraged to contact our pension officers before lodging any paperwork with DVA.
A Commemorations team organises Anzac Day activities and other significant events, while a fundraising team organises our badge and poppy sales activities. Social activities take the form of a monthly BBQ and fellowship session, and our December meeting takes the form of our Christmas Party with a spit roast or other catering.
